I've finally finished Seele Schneider, the only bladed Quincy weapon.
The hilt is made from a combination of pine wood, plywood and basswood. It's constructed like a box, with a removable lid held in place by two strong magnets. The end with the finger whole is made from one piece of pine wood. The hilt contains 4 AA batteries and a switch which power an LED string to make the blade glow. The blade itself is made from 4 layers of 4mm sheet acrylic. With the two centre pieces having a cutout for the LED string. The LED string comes from a Master Replicas Lightsaber, which I bought seperately from JQLightsabers. co.uk [link] They do Lightsaber conversions which involve removing the LED string and replacing it with a Luxeon LED, so have stock of these LED strings which can be bought cheap. I've tried a variety of methods to difuse the light from the blade, but haven't been able to get it perfect. It looks better in the pictures then it does in real life. If people are interested on how any of it's made just post a request and I'll write up more detail. I also made a few 3D models prior to starting to get an idea of how I can get it to all fit together.  I'm planning on bringing it to London Expo in May (Saturday).-- Projects Complete: Links Master Sword Benihime Shikai Seele Schneider Unnamed Katana   That is indeed awesome. (And I would be interested in learning how you constructed it, especially the electrical parts, even if I can vaguely guess by the details you gave here.)
I would suggest frosting the acrylic to diffuse the light a bit, but since I don't know how those strings work I couldn't say for sure. My only real experience with LEDs is replacing one of those touch bubble bubles with a clusterbulb and the diffusion there was a sheet of tinfoil. -- Warning: My train of thought runs things over. I've tried frosting the blade using some glass frosting spray paint.
I actually bought two LED strings so I have a spare which I've already soldered etc, so I'll take some pictures and post em tonight. So I can use this second set and some spare acrylic to try other paints. If I use a air spray and water down some paints it may be transulcent enough and give a better effect. Critiques
Swordmaking has never been just black and white, there is not just one way to build a sword, and Awaken-Benihime has proved that point. Seele-Schneider glows, it actually glows! I cannot express how cool that is! He has skillfully introduced modern day electronics into swordmaking which has existed for thousands of years. The composition of old and new is in pure harmony and that is what swordmaking is about.
In the construction of this blade, he has shown that he is talented with a huge array of construction skills! I had the pleasure of meeting Awaken-Benihime and holding this blade. The feeling was like holding a newborn baby, it was so precious and one of a kind in the world. Looking at this blade, you just cannot help but admit he is a genius at swordmaking.
